Note this was BLM protester, who more than likely recently bought the gun and has even less familiarity and training with it than even the most casual conservative openly carrying activist. Not that it can't happen to us too, but how many pro-gun right-wing people have you heard of having negligent discharges at open carry rallies? BLM supporters in Kentucky dealt with a ND recently, making that two in a month.
Carson City sheriff Kenny Furlong said this:
“Please, guns have accidents. An accident can turn into a tragedy in two seconds. We were very fortunate today.”
No Sheriff, an untrained idiot screwed up and negligently discharged. There are no "accidental" discharges, only negligent ones. True firearm malfunctions are so rare as to be not worth mentioning.
This ND happened probably because:
1. Idiot had his safety off.
2. Idiot had a round chambered.
3. Idiot wasn't making sure his trigger guard was clear of obstructions.
4. Idiot has little/no firearms familiarity or training.
You simply don't carry with your safety off, period. That's like driving drunk. Second, having a round chambered at an open carry rally is a liability (many OC rallies ask or require participants to flag their empty chambers).
These leftists are not ready for what they're asking for. Guns are not props, but rather serious tools. Here at Nevada Carry, we're quite critical of long-guns at rallies, though we aren't entirely against them. Here's a reason why casual, angry people looking to "do something" and appear tough and resolute shouldn't be toting rifles in public.
Now remember who did this to throw any anti-open carry legislation back in the face of the Legislature if (when) they propose it in 2021.
Free Kyle. You could be next to be maliciously prosecuted for self-defense. And yes, it was self-defense. If you believe otherwise, you are stupid and misinformed.
As far as being there, well, the first way to avoid a gunfight is not being there. I heard he was asked by friends to guard their business; if so, being a Roof Korean is a personal decision. It's a little less crazy if the business is yours. Your home should be without question. While we all want to armchair quarterback this and say if he wasn't there he wouldn't be in trouble now, well sometimes you gotta show up to the battle to win the war.
So let's not criticize the kid, let's support him for an amazing shoot and standing up when the police won't. It'll be you and I (figuratively speaking) in the crosshairs next.
Self-Defense Legal Protection
*I'm sure someone is going to accuse me of shilling, but seriously, with all this stuff going on, can you afford a lawyer? Do you want to be talking to police on your own or hoping the public defender is competent? This kid is getting railroaded with murder. Buy some insurance to cover your legal costs and help support the blog.
When the police have you in the interrogation room, who will you call? You do know not to talk to the police, right?
USCCA provides legal protection beginning at just $22 a month. At the basic level, you will receive $500,000 in civil liability protection, up to $100,000 for a legal defense and bail, and a 24/7 critical response team in case you are involved in a defensive gun use. Members even have access to a grant fund in the event they are improperly targeted by red flag laws, gun confiscation, or their CCW permit is revoked improperly.
On top of this, you get access to premium training materials.
Why join USCCA instead of somewhere else? If your legal and financial well-being isn't enough, one reason is doing so helps Nevada Carry.
RGJ story about the "controversial" statement
Carson Now about the protests
Douglas Sheriff Dan Coverly made national headlines when he told the library district not to bother calling 911 after the library made a statement in support of Black Lives Matter.
Coverly took heat because his facetious remark was taken seriously and used to criticize him. Apparently, only the left can make dramatic and hyperbolic statements.
As a result, a BLM protest is scheduled to take place near the sheriff's station between 10 AM - 5 PM Saturday, August 8. Counter-protests are planned as well.
We predict that the BLM supporters will be young college kids and mostly white liberals. It will probably not get out of hand. Even so, be aware and keep your head on a swivel.
