The Fix is In: Repeal of Preemption Plotting Begins

Start with the AP article. H/t to Don Tuner.
AP: Clark County Commissioners Open To Gun Restrictions On Strip
Nevada is fast on track to be the first state to repeal state preemption of firearm laws with AB 291 headed to the Senate floor. State preemption is supposed to ban local regulations out of sync with the rest of the state by placing such control in the hands of the legislature, to act as check on emotion-driven, fast-moving local authorities. New Mexico is the only state that bans local firearm regulation in its constitution.

An anti-gun legislature that has closed its ears to debate and ready to undo laws 30 years old this June, followed by county commissioners already talking about how they will use the not-yet-law to their advantage is tyranny. This is a clear case of Democrats seizing power and exploiting it in defiance of public opinion. They don’t even have the decency to wait and see if the law is passed before bragging about how they will tyrannize us.

All of this stems from the fact that the county commission couldn’t virtue signal after the Mandalay Bay massacre and ban bump fire stocks. That is their “excuse” for justifying the laws. On top if it, the premature actions of rural sheriffs and counties to declare themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries and declare their opposition to enforcing universal background checks has played right into Sisolak’s hands. These ordinances, resolutions, and statements will be used to say hey “now each county gets to go its own way.”

State preemption of firearms laws is not about protecting rural counties or “urban needs.” The claim that Clark County somehow needs different laws is nothing but a bald faced lie, one that has been made since the 1980s when preemption began. Repealing prohibition is about letting the Democrat control Clark and Washoe county commissions get their way and screw over gun owners. Most gun owners in Nevada live in urban Clark County.

Preemption began as a way to end some of the ridiculous gun control like handgun registration (“blue cards”) in Clark County and protect travelers from other parts of the state and country who might not know local laws. First and foremost, it was about not letting Metro PD and the county commission from screwing over gun owners in Clark and Washoe Counties. This was a time when Reno banned open carry, CCWs were hard to get, and North Las Vegas loved detaining blacks who “might” be armed in violation of a city ordinance.

The tyrants don’t care. Justin Jones said that making the strip a “gun free zone” on holidays is “common sense.” No it’s not. This would disarm revelers on NYE who might get robbed or raped outside the heavily policed zones. A law disarming people would not stop a terrorist from smuggling a gun in or simply shooting from beyond the secured zone. It’s not about logic; it’s about what “feels” right, what casinos want, and what Bloomberg et al. wants.

Segerblom’s assault weapon ban, handgun registration, and “ammunition limitations” will go nowhere. There are too many people who own modern semi-auto rifles to outright ban them at the county level. Second, handgun registration was a failure and specifically repealed. No one is going to comply with that and it’s ripe for a court challenge.

So the county won’t be that stupid this soon. As Kirkpatrick said in the article, the commission is clearly concerned about losing money for the casinos (as SHOTShow has threatened to leave if Nevada goes anti-gun).

At least changing restrictions to the county level will make it easier to fight the restrictions and the politicians involved. It’ll be ripe fodder to throw out the commissioners, bombard them with emails and phone calls, and for the public to flood the meetings in opposition.

Several citizens have threatened to stage a Texas-style open carry walk on the Strip just to piss off the anti-gunners. That would be interesting to see. I mean really; do these idiots in politics pay attention to the pro-gun crowd?

The good news is local regulations are easier to fight. With the handwriting on the wall from SCOTUS about the upcoming Second Amendment case, strict-scrutiny is the future review of Second Amendment cases which will doom a lot of these restrictions forever. Let me say that again for the hoplophobes in Carson City and Las Vegas; if you lose in federal court, you lose forever.

Finally, history will vindicate us. History will show that support for gun rights and pro-gun laws were on the upswing until the Democrats got in power. These gun grabs will be seen as the naked tyranny that they are with no excuse or reason. It’ll be like a game of “connect the dots” that paint these people as the monsters they are. So remember that ant-gunners; you’ll have to kill every one of us and erase history to get away with it.

Remember to contact your senators to help stop the bill AB 291.
