LVMPD Issues 120 Day Extension to Expiring CCW Permits

3/27/2020

The actual order
From Metro 3/27/20:
CCW Instructors,

Many of you have asked about what we are doing for Concealed Carry Permit holders whose CCWs will expire during the Records and Fingerprint closure.

Today Sheriff Lombardo has approved a 120 day temporary extension for citizens whose CCW permits expire during this closure. What does this mean?

Any permits that expire on or after March 17, 2020 will be valid until July 15, 2020 (This is NOT a rolling 120 days).
Basically, all permits with expiration dates in the timeframe given will expire on July 15, 2020

Please be aware, this is only valid within Clark County.

LVMPD officers are being made aware of this extension. While we will be notifying the other counties of Sheriff Lombardo’s decision, they are not required to honor it.

Other states that have reciprocity with us will not be aware of this and will not honor it.

For those who obtained a Clark County CCW permit, but have moved to another county in Nevada, please e-mail CCWDetail@lvmpd.com and we will assist them on an individual basis.

LVMPD – CCW Detail
Again, permits that expire on or after March 17, 2020 will be valid until July 15, 2020. This does not apply if you do not have a CCW issued.

While this is nice of Metro, this does nothing to extricate themselves from the potential lawsuit over continuing to refuse any CCW classes taken after noon 3/24/2020. While those with issued permits get a grace period, it is impossible for new applications to take training. We do not believe that Metro has the legal ability to tell people not to take classes if social distancing can be maintained.
