Las Vegas Shooting Center Stands Up to Shut Down

Las Vegas Shooting Center was recently contacted by authorities to shut down. Luckily, they had a copy of NRS 415.155 and knew that the state cannot regulate the "use" of firearms. With proper social distancing protocols and sanitation, infection should not be an issue. Whether or not you agree with an indoor range being open at this time, it's good to see someone pushing back.

​A Lieutenant from Code Enforcement and the Clark County business license folks just showed up to Las Vegas Shooting Center to shut us down, I believe.

I quoted this law and the AG’s opinion you posted earlier. They took it up the food chain and after a brief polite, but serious conversation, they left and our doors remained open.

They said they “may be back” and then explained the “shut down” process was like.
I asked the Code Enforcement Lieutenant that was there “if someone tried to shut us down, they’d be committing a misdemeanor crime, right”

“Yes. They would.”

“Ok. Well, in that case...if you do return to shut us down, that would be a misdemeanor crime committed in my presence and I would then perform a citizens arrest.”

“Well, it would be Metro doing the shut down. Not us”

“Thats fine. Then it’d just be a real awkward conversation to have with each other, wouldn’t it?”

As it stands right now, we’re staying open. But, we have a feeling they’ll be back. We’ve got a few Citizens Arrest packets ready to go in case they do try to shut us down. Not sure it’ll work, but, it’s worth a shot I guess.

As far as whether or not certain business should be open or closed, that's a debate that needs to be based on scientific evidence on the nature of transmission, not an arbitrary government decree. The debate on the extent of the government's powers in this crisis needs to be debated and questioned. So far, very few are willing to do that.
