Sounds to me like: bear attempts to break into the house, guy grabs gun, goes outside, shoots bear, bear runs off. Neighbors go WTF? Because there was evidence of a bear, the wardens decide the dude wasn't crazy and don't prosecute for shooting in the neighborhood. Interesting takeaways: 6.8 Remington, self-defense is accepted here as an unwritten exemption from the unsafe discharge ordinance, and don't go outside if you don't have to. I probably would have stayed inside and let the deputies shoot the bear if it came down to it. What if the guy got ambushed by the bear or momma in the bushes? This article defends the position that the right of armed self-defense remains important today, in particular in light of the civil unrest of the Summer of 2020. The article proceeds in three parts. The first part will summarize arguments from various prominent commentators that the right to self-defense with firearms is anachronistic in the contemporary United States. These critics argue that Americans can and should rely solely on their local professional police force to protect them. Review-Journal If you aren't aware of the increased violence on the Strip, you must not be following the news. The pandemic shutdown crushed the gaming industry, so they dropped room rates to attract customers. Unfortunately, those customers are low class pieces of trash; many of whom I'm assuming belong to a demographic who commit over 50% of the murders. Wynn and Encore is installing metal detectors and searching bags. This isn't to catch people bringing in their own booze. Other casinos will probably follow. Sure, that might discourage Darnell Douchebag from carrying, but that also disarms normal people who want to go out on the Strip without being defenseless. Disarming criminals means disarming law abiding people. With the increased delays and humiliation entering a casino, people who aren't trash are going to be turned off. First the mask and temperature check non-sense, then treating people who are there to blow money like they are gang members at a ghetto school? Will Wynn have the balls to allow concealed weapon permittees to carry? Of course not, although that would be an expedient solution for all. So if you want to visit the Strip, you're gonna have to do it disarmed. The heartless, idiot executives only care about what happens inside their casino (or from their 32nd floor). Regardless of whatever theatrics the casinos put in place, the violence won't stop until the trash stops coming. Once again, gun owners will pay the price for failed Democrat policies and faceless corporations too stupid to treat the gun issue rationally. Should Democrats retain control of the Legislature, preemption will be partially repealed and Clark County will certainly enact carry restrictions on the Strip. We need the mob back. LV Sun Once again, leftists are telegraphing the punches and bragging about how they want to do away with state preemption of firearm laws. They can only do this because they’ve essentially bought the state and have no scruples left. It’s sorta like raping a woman in front of her husband. No one dares stand up to them and call them on their crap because journalism has either been coopted by the same corrupting influences that turned these politicians into tyrants or because “reporters” just suck at their jobs today. Probably both. Let’s be honest about the recent violence on the Strip; the people who are doing it are trash who wouldn’t be able to afford Las Vegas if it wasn’t for the steep discounts that COVID-19 has afforded them. We are seeing violence because the people who live their lives in such a way that they can’t afford to vacation are finally able to and bringing their violence and lack of impulse control with them. It has nothing to do with guns and everything about bringing in the wrong kind of people. Chalk it up to race (really culture reflected by racial delineations) and gang culture, but ultimately low prices have brought low-quality tourists to town. The normal trade of foreign tourists and people from all over the country coming to gamble in city has declined dramatically. Banning gambling and closing casinos entirely did nothing to help the tourist trade. The continuing restrictions that have made Vegas less fun are not attracting people, many of whom have already been terrified or impoverished by the “flatten the economy” approach to the pandemic. Banning guns on the Strip isn’t going to solve anything. Criminals and gang members will still bring guns to casinos and the sidewalks down the Boulevard and on Fremont Street. Any laws that ban firearms in casinos or in the major tourists areas will simply cause law abiding people to be defenseless. In the face of increasing violence and decreased tourism, the last thing any intelligent person should want to do is make normal people more vulnerable to criminals. That’s exactly what gun bans will do. Nevadans and armed visiting Americans will simply avoid the dangerous Strip if they can’t protect themselves while walking around. More tourist dollars down the drain. Next, is the best response to the October 1, 2017, massacre the repeal of firearm preemption laws? Of course not. No one but Steven Paddock knew what was going to happen that night. No law could stop that attack, nor one like it. What laws would likely be passed? As we mentioned, banning guns on the Strip. For that to be enforced, a cop would have to have probable cause to arrest someone to begin with. Casinos using technology to scan people and then reporting that information to police would bring up a whole host of privacy and constitutional issues. Criminals would still carry illegally while Joe Gambler from Texas would be disarmed and might choose to avoid the city altogether. Banning “assault weapons” in Clark County wouldn’t solve anything either. They would be legal to own or sell in other counties and criminals could easily bring them in from other states (or ones that would surely be grandfathered). There’s no magic law or regulation that will stop crime or terrorist attacks from occurring. More regulations is about what gun control has always been about; disarming Americans and depriving them of their right to defend themselves from tyranny and violence. Repealing preemption is just another way for feckless leaders who hate civil liberties to chip away at the one right that protects the rest. Watch Clark County ban open carry and then do nothing as leftist mobs burn down businesses. You want to repeal preemption? Fine. Allow counties to invalidate sections of the NRS they don’t like. Maybe Nye County can let teachers be armed, not require a CCW permit to carry concealed, or allow private gun sales to happen again without involving a dealer for a background check. The only reason this discussion is possible is because the Democratic Party is wholly corrupt. It can be said without joking that Michael Bloomberg has bought our legislature. He did it Virginia and look at them. Sure, we have the last laugh, but we don’t want to exercise that option. Get out and vote Republican, especially in the state assembly and senate races. We must deny the leftists a majority in the legislature to stop these bills. Nevada is under threat of California style gun control like never before. In 2019, the Democrat controlled Legislature enacted “red flag” gun confiscation laws, banned a popular firearm accessory, and made it illegal to sell a gun privately. Many first-time gun buyers found out this year that it’s no longer legal to buy or even borrow a gun from a friend. Buying guns from online ads has become a huge hassle too at a time when no guns were on gun store shelves. This is because in 2019, Democrats passed universal background checks; something that sounded great until people had to wait weeks for their “instant” background check to be approved. 2017, Democrats tried to make it legal for a criminal to sue you if you shoot them in self-defense in your own home. 2020 could give us an avalanche of bad laws. Imagine facing an angry mob, ready to burn down your house and beat your family to death, but your AR-15 is illegal, you can’t stand outside with your shotgun openly carried, and your pistol must have a ten round or less magazine in it. And to top it off, if you use your gun in self-defense the criminals can sue you, even if you did nothing wrong. Democrats have already said that they want to make it legal for counties to pass their own gun bans. That means that counties could ban AR-15s if they wanted to or make it illegal to carry a gun in certain parts of town. That’s right; with increasing violence on the Las Vegas Strip, politicians would love to allow the county to disarm you around the casinos. What keeps this from happening now is something called state preemption of firearm laws. This means that with the exception of where you can go shooting, all gun laws in the state must be the same. Only the Legislature can regulate when, where, and how you can carry a gun and what type of gun or accessories you can own. Until 2015, there were laws on the books that banned open carry in North Las Vegas and even legal, concealed carry in Clark County parks. What the Democrats want to do is return Nevada to a time when any county (or even cities) could make whatever gun law suited them. In the past:
Since 2015, there has been no violence associated with repealing these laws. It actually allowed people to protect themselves in places they couldn’t before. Lying politicians and anti-gunners will tell you that we need to let counties ban guns because it would stop things like the October 1, 2017, Route 91 mass shooting—that’s not true. No law can stop a crime. In fact, the only thing Clark County Commissioners, who included now-Governor Sisolak, wanted to do was ban the popular “bump fire” stocks. More than half of Nevada voted against gun control in 2016. Most Nevadans live in big cities. We can’t just move to a gun-friendly county; we’re stuck in the Vegas and Reno areas. Many of us moved from California because of the stupid regulations. Allowing counties to make their own laws will mean that Clark and Washoe Counties will have California-style gun control laws, all because Democrats are in charge there. This means:
Out of state billionaires and other political donors are dumping money into Nevada to buy our Legislature out from under us. No longer are our elected officials afraid of losing the next election because they enact gun control; not when campaign donations can finance whatever is necessary to keep these people in. Our only chance to save our gun rights in Nevada is to vote these people out. If you care about your gun rights and Nevada not turning into East California, you must vote Republican in the Assembly and Senate elections. If that fails, we face an uncertain, expensive, and long court process that the anti-gunners will fight all the way with their unlimited pockets. This is not the time for other issues or not liking the Republican Party. The old Democratic Party is gone and has been taken over by socialist, communists, and tyrants. We must get enough Republican seats in the Legislature to stop any gun control bills. You may have issues with Republicans, but they are the only ones in government who stand any chance of stopping the California-style laws that are coming our way. 2020 has been a year none of us have seen before. The integrity of our sacred voting rights have been questioned, our freedoms trampled by our government, and angry mobs bent on destruction burn homes and loot businesses while police do nothing. Our country is in peril and more gun control will put YOU at risk for what these mobs want to do. |
